Are you thinking about visiting Disney World on a budget? Disney World is known for its magical experiences, but many assume that the magic comes with a hefty price tag. The good news? With smart planning and insider tips, you can enjoy the magic of Disney without draining your wallet.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the best ways to save money on your Disney World trip, from booking tickets at the right time to finding budget-friendly accommodations, food, and souvenirs. Let’s dive in!
1. When to Visit Disney World for the Best Deals
One of the easiest and best ways to save money is by visiting Disney during off-peak seasons when crowds are lower, and prices drop.
Least Expensive Times to Visit Disney World
- Mid-January to early February – After the holiday rush, the crowds thin out, and prices typically drop
- Late August to September – While it’s hot and humid, this is one of the least expensive times to visit
- Pre-holiday periods (early November and early December) – Before Thanksgiving and Christmas crowds arrive
Best Days of the Week to Visit
- Tuesday to Thursday tends to have lower crowd levels, meaning shorter wait times and sometimes lower ticket prices
How to Track Disney Deals & Promotions
- Sign up for Disney’s email alerts for special offers
- Follow authorized resellers like Undercover Tourist for discounted tickets
- Check travel deal websites like MouseSavers for updated discounts
2. Saving Money on Disney World Tickets
Best Places to Buy Discounted Disney Tickets
Buying tickets from authorized sellers can save you money:
- Undercover Tourist – This is a big one! They offer legit discounted Disney tickets
- AAA – Members often get exclusive ticket deals
- Military Discounts – As a previous military spouse myself, these discounts are AMAZING. Be sure to look at Shades of Green and talk to your ITT office
Multi-Day Passes vs. Single-Day Tickets
- Multi-day passes offer the best bang for your buck when trying to visit Disney World on a budget! The cost per day goes down as you add more days
- Single-day tickets can be pricey, so if you’re only going for one day try to pick an off-peak day, for sure!
Is the Park Hopper Worth it?
Park Hopper tickets allow you to visit more than one park in a day. This (of course) comes at an extra cost! When visiting Disney World on a budget, only visiting one park per day can definitely save you money.
3. Budget-Friendly Accommodations Near Disney World
On-Site vs. Off-Site Hotels: Which Offers a Better Value?
On-site Disney Resorts can often be more expensive but include free transportation and early park entry. Off-site hotels are often cheaper and sometimes include free shuttles to the Disney parks. When choosing on-site vs off-site, you really want to weigh out all the pros and cons and TOTAL cost (including transportation and parking at the parks). Things to be sure to consider: Uber costs, parking costs at the parks, shuttle run times, and Disney transportation options. There isn’t a one size fits all answer here.
Best Budget-Friendly Disney Resorts
Staying at a value resort can definitely save you some money. My favorite two are the All-Star Resorts (Music, Movies, and Sports) and Pop Century Resort. The best part about Pop Century Resort is that you have access to the Skyliner (a fun way to get to and from the parks).
Affordable Off-Site Hotels with Free Shuttles
Some off-site options that you might be interested in are the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando or the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando.
Renting a Vacation Home or Air BnB
If you are traveling with a large group, an Air Bnb or vacation rental might be your most cost effective option. Most rentals come with a kitchen, which means the possibility of cooking instead of eating out!
4. Affordable Transportation Tips
Take Advantage of Free Disney Transportation
When staying on property, you can always take advantage of Disney’s free transportation.
- Buses, Monorail & Skyliner – easy transportation from resort to park or for park & resort hopping
- Boats & Ferries – a fun and free way to get around
Rideshare vs. Rental Car
Rideshare options (Uber/Lyft) are often cheaper than renting a car if you don’t plan to drive frequently. Rental cars can be a very costly option, and not typically budget friendly.
Free & Cheap Airport Transfers
Mears Connect is one of my greatest discoveries when flying rather than driving. This is a shuttle service from the airport to any of Disney’s resorts. You can then easily catch Disney transportation to the parks! You do NOT have to be staying at that resort to get dropped off there.
Parking Tips to Save Money
If you are staying at a Disney Resort, parking at the parks is free! This is a great benefit if you like to have your car available to you to leave mid-day. Another option is parking at Disney Springs and then grabbing a Rideshare to the parks!
5. How to Save on Food & Drinks in Disney World
Saving money on food can definitely be one of the hardest things to do at Disney World, in my opinion. There are so many options and the cost really does add up. I hope these tips help! Planning ahead is also an option, because all of the menus with prices are posted in the MyDisneyExperience app and online! I have an entire guide to dining at Disney that you can read here!
Budget-Friendly Dining Options in the Parks
Quick service, quick service, quick service. If you want to find more budget friendly options in the parks, quick service dining is the way to go. I have an entire quick service dining guide in the works that I’ll link here!
Bringing Your Food
Did you know Disney allows you to bring outside food and drink? You can always pack your own snacks and sandwiches to save on food costs! You can find all the rules here!
Free Water Hacks
You can ask for a free cup of water at any quick-service restaurant. This is a great way to stay hydrated in that Florida heat. You can also bring refillable water bottles to fill at different stations around the parks.
Disney Dining Programs & Discounts
First question you should ask yourself when considering the dining plan is “Is it worth the money?” I have an entire guide on that you can read here! It is great for convenience and can be the most cost-effective option if you do it right and plan ahead. Also, be sure to look out for free Disney Dining Plan promotions that they run from time to time.
6. How to Get Disney Merchandise for Less
Best Places for Discounted Disney Souvenirs
- Disney Character Warehouse (Outlet Stores) – HUGE discounts on Disney merch! Be sure to check them out!
- Target & Walmart near Disney – always have a huge selection of Disney gear for lower cost
DIY Disney Souvenirs & Apparel
- Create your own custom Disney shirts for a fraction of the price! You can do this on Etsy or if you know someone personally who sells shirts.
- Pin Trading is a fun and affordable way to collect Disney souvenirs!
7. Free & Low-Cost Experiences at Disney World
Enjoy Free Disney Magic
“Resort Hopping” can be a great way to enjoy some free Disney magic. Hop on a bus or the monorail to head to one of the resorts and explore! There are often character meet and greets in resorts and sometimes Disney Springs. Another way to enjoy some free Disney magic is by hunting for Hidden Mickeys! Look for little Mickey shapes all around the parks and resorts.
Best Fireworks Viewing Spots Outside the Parks
- Disney’s Polynesian Resort Beach – a great free fireworks view for Magic Kingdom!
- the BoardWalk – another great spot for free entertainment and nighttime views
Fun & Free Disney Springs Activities
- Live music & entertainment is often happening at Disney Springs!
- Leg Store Play Area – this is a great place to let kids blow off some steam
Get a Free Disney Celebration Button
These are so fun and you can get them at almost any shop or Guest Services! You can get a button for birthdays, being a first-time visitor, anniversaries or just celebrating something!
8. Extra Budget Saving Tips for Disney World
Use Cashback and Travel Rewards
- Chase Disney Visa Card – This has been great and often comes with discounts on merchandise and dining
- Rakuten & Cashback apps – get cashback on Disney-related purchases
Buy Discounted Disney Gift Cards
- Target RedCard – Save 5% on Disney Gift Cards
- Sam’s Club & Costco – Occasionally they sell discounted Disney gift cards
Avoid Hidden Costs & Unnecessary Add-Ons
One way to save is to skip the photo packages. You can always ask a Cast Member nicely to take some photos on your phone instead! However, if you are going to want your ride photos Memory Maker is absolutely the best bang for your buck. Make sure to bring your own ponchos for those rainy days!
Disney World can definitely be more affordable when you plan ahead! From booking tickets during off-peak times to bringing your own snacks and using free Disney transportation, you can enjoy the magic without overspending!
